David Tonks - Principal Engineer, Semtech Ltd. David began his telecom career working on various projects for GPT, including their first SDH equipment. He moved to Ascom in Switzerland for a number of years, working on ATM and SDH equipment. In 1998, he returned to the UK to work for Semtech, conceiving the successful SETS design program, and is now to be found working mainly on the problem of carrying synchronisation over packet networks. He represents Semtech on the IEEE 1588 PAR working group, aiming to make 1588 suitable for telecom applications.
